Singer Uffe Pettersson has a nice aggressive edge to his voice, very different from the high-pitched, bordering-on-falsetto screams that bands like Anthrax and the like were using. We would consider these to be pure Thrash vocals, never crossing the line into death metal territory, but angry and at times gruff as befitting this style of music. While the two don‚Äôt sound anything alike, I get a vibe from Uffe Petersson on this album that makes me think of James Hetfield on ‚ÄúRide the Lightning‚Äù.\u003c\/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eYou know, back when Metallica was an actual Thrash band instead of mainstream band.\u003cbr\u003eThe guitar sound is another standout; reasonably clean and easy to decipher but without sacrificing any heaviness. All of this culminates in what is my mind the most “complete” thing Trouble ever created.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFrom the mid-paced chug of a killer opener in “At the End of My Daze” to the last notes of “All Is Forgiven”, I can’t see filler or anything resembling a weak link. The riffs here are some of the best ever written, by Trouble or anyone else; every song has a manically awesome main riff that demands a display of headbanging. Riffs are undoubtedly the point of focus here; they make the songs, and they’re a timeless variety of great. Also, the interplay between guitarists Bruce Franklin and Rick Wartell is some of the best lead work you will ever hear in Metal.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTrouble basically reinvented themselves with this release, and while I think it was a fantastic rebirth, those who aren’t so keen on the laid back stoner vibe they chose to adopt may not see it as a rejuvenation, but a step back (they did go from doom and gloom to collectively embracing their inner acid dropping free love hippie, after all). In this part, Hesperus’ grandmother’s voice (R.I.P.) narrates these folklore legends a couple of times (she knew quite a few). Here a bigger amount of Marchigian dialect than italian (more than Fra li Monti Sibillini)\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e• The third and longest part is, in fact, a continuation that closes the circle with the previous album, and the part is “Ritorno fra li monti Sibillini” (Return to the Sibilline Mountains), with two tracks focusing on the goat-fairies and the Sibylla, and another two tracks that speak of the geographical novel of the Chevalier De la Sale, a real historical figure who was tasked with exploring the Sibilline Mountains and understanding what was inside the Sibylla’s cave (thus, not a knight from an epic poem like in the previous album); he truly met the inhabitants of Montemonaco (Mons Daemoniacus) who led him to the vestibule of the Sibylla’s cave (on the summit of Monte Sibilla) and told him numerous stories of those who entered the cave, including that of a German knight who returned because he was not forgiven by the Church and remained there... forever (the last track: the final 12’ suite).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eStylistically, the album has many similarities with the previous record (a Mediaval Black Metalin the vein of ‘90s) but adds some Renaissance parts and some ‘80s proto Black Metal passages.
